How to Add Testimonials to Your Squarespace Website (No Plugins, No Paid Add-Ons)

Squarespace's built-in testimonial block is clunky and hard to manage. Here's a better way to collect and display real customer reviews on any Squarespace page.

If you're running a Squarespace site, you've probably noticed the limitations of the built-in testimonial block: you have to manually type in each review, there's no way for customers to submit directly, and it looks the same as every other Squarespace site using the same template.

There's a better approach. Vouch lets you collect real testimonials from customers via a shareable link, then embed them anywhere on your Squarespace site with a single Code Block. No plugins to install, no app marketplace fees, no Squarespace Business plan required (works on Personal too).

What you'll need

  • A Squarespace website (any plan)
  • A free Vouch account at socialproof.dev
  • 5–10 minutes

Step 1: Create your Vouch account and get your collect link

Sign up at app.socialproof.dev. When you register, a collection link is automatically created for your account — no setup wizard, no extra steps.

You'll see your collect link in the dashboard. It looks like:

https://socialproof.dev/c/your-unique-id

This is the link you'll send to customers. They click it, fill in their name and testimonial (no account required on their end), and hit submit. You'll get a notification and can approve or reject in your dashboard.

Step 2: Collect your first testimonials

Send your collect link to 3–5 customers you know are happy with your work. Good moments to ask:

  • Right after you deliver a project or order
  • When a customer says something nice in an email or message — reply and ask if they'd leave a quick testimonial
  • In your post-purchase follow-up email

Once they submit and you approve, the testimonials appear in your widget automatically.

Step 3: Create your Vouch widget

In your Vouch dashboard, go to Widgets and create a new widget. Give it a name (e.g., "Squarespace homepage"), select which testimonials to show, and choose a display style.

After saving, you'll see your widget's embed code. It looks like this:

<div data-vouch-widget="your-widget-id"></div>
<script src="https://widget.socialproof.dev/widget.js" async></script>

Copy this code — you'll paste it into Squarespace next.

Step 4: Add the widget to your Squarespace page

Squarespace lets you embed custom HTML on any page via a Code Block. Here's how:

  1. Open the page editor in Squarespace
  2. Click the + button where you want the testimonials to appear
  3. Search for Code and select the Code block
  4. Paste your Vouch embed code into the code block
  5. Click Apply, then save and publish the page

That's it. The widget will render live on your page, pulling in all your approved testimonials.

Note: Squarespace Personal plan does allow Code blocks on most pages. If you're on the most basic legacy plan and don't see the Code block option, you may need to upgrade to Personal or above — but this is a Squarespace limitation, not a Vouch one.

Where to put testimonials on a Squarespace site

Testimonials convert best when they're placed near a decision point. High-impact placements on Squarespace:

  • Homepage — between your services section and your CTA button. Visitors who scroll past your offer need one more push.
  • Services or pricing page — directly below the price or package description. This is where doubt peaks.
  • Contact page — a testimonial right above the contact form reduces form abandonment significantly.
  • About page — humanizes your credibility claims. "We've helped 200+ clients" hits harder when it's followed by three real names and quotes.

How it looks on Squarespace

The Vouch widget is designed to match whatever background it sits on — no garish borders or clashing colors. It renders as a clean grid or carousel of testimonial cards, each showing the customer's name, optional photo, star rating (if collected), and quote.

On mobile, the widget stacks into a single column automatically. No responsive breakpoint code needed on your end.

Adding new testimonials later

You don't touch Squarespace at all. New testimonials appear in your Vouch dashboard, you approve them, and they go live on your widget immediately. No editing the code block, no re-publishing the page.

This is the biggest advantage over Squarespace's built-in testimonial block, where you'd have to manually update the page every time.

FAQ

Does Vouch work on Squarespace Personal plan?

Yes. Code blocks are available on Squarespace Personal and above. The Vouch free plan is sufficient for most small business sites — 1 widget, up to 25 testimonials.

Will the widget slow down my Squarespace site?

No. The script loads asynchronously (the async attribute in the embed code), so it never blocks page rendering. Your Squarespace page loads at full speed regardless.

Can I use Vouch on multiple Squarespace pages?

Yes. Paste the same embed code on as many pages as you want — it counts as one widget. The free plan covers 1 widget; Pro covers unlimited.

What if a customer submits something I don't want to publish?

Nothing goes live without your approval. Every submission sits in your dashboard's pending queue until you approve it.
